What we do:

  • Evaluate portfolio managers at a base level of high performance expectations
  • Analyze the styles and performances of the world's leading portfolio managers and select only the best in class in a given style category to recommend to clients
  • Quarterly monitor performance, review and revise recommendations to clients accordingly

What we don't do:

  • Directly manage money
  • Employ portfolio managers
  • Produce investment products
  • Receive commission for selling investment products

As part of our rigorous selection process, we require all of
our portfolio managers to have:

  • Extensive investment industry experience with minimum of five to ten years managing money within a stated style
  • A research process that is successful at identifying superior investment opportunities within the specific asset category of the investment product
  • A historical performance record that places the portfolio manager in the top tenth percentile of their peer group
  • A highly defined investment process that has shown consistent results over time and a commitment to continued adherence
  • Specifically defined buy and sell strategies

We evaluate our portfolio managers using a combination of quantitative research, database, and ranking service cross-referencing and network recommendations. From this pool of talent, we identify the performers in the top 15% and contact them directly. As a registered investment advisor, we obtain sample portfolios, performance reports and actual existing client references that are not generally shared with the public. We analyze buy and sell discipline, style and historic diversion from style, and consistency of results. We then meet not only the portfolio managers, but as many people within the organization as possible to get a true representation not only of performance, but of the individuals.

Once we have decided to add a portfolio manager to our platform, we continue the evaluation process. We review all of our managed accounts on a rotating basis, and require personal interaction with each portfolio manager monthly during stable economic times, and more frequently during market uncertainty. We monitor divergence of account holdings and performance on all accounts managed by each specific portfolio manager to identify any inconsistencies or concerns. We then act accordingly in an objective manner to best serve our clients.
